trying something new —

Our intern, Layla, stepped outside of her comfort zone recently - check out what she wrote about her experience:

Trying new things can be scary, especially for me. I tend to err on the side of caution as someone who can, at times, fear for the worst.

On Sunday, I was invited to try something new: a roo.bru tasting event at Native Sun in Jacksonville Beach. When I joined the roo.bru team, I knew that I might have to attend a few events, but that didn’t stop me from being nervous the days leading up to it. I’m more reserved than most and the idea of trying to sell something to someone nearly terrified me. Okay that might be a bit dramatic but, like I said, new things can be daunting!

When I woke up on Sunday morning to dark clouds and rain, I feared it would be a bad omen for the day ahead. However, when I arrived at the event, most of my anxieties departed. Unbeknownst to me, there were lots of vendors at Native Sun that day and even more customers excited to interact with them.

As soon as we were done setting up our stand, our first customer approached. Her initial question after learning a bit about the product was “Why should I drink this?”, to which Sam, our co-founder, responds with a beautifully crafted statement detailing all the awesome benefits of drinking roo.bru. She then agreed to try it… and loved it!

Each customer that approached after her followed a similar pattern: hesitant at first, but then after they learned more about the product and tried it for themselves, they loved it and were eager to get their own bag.

Throughout the day, I realized that each person that approached us and sampled the drink tried something new. I’m sure before they took their first sip, they felt emotions I had felt earlier that day: a bit nervous and cautious. But, after they took the chance to branch out and try roo.bru, they found a drink that not only tasted awesome, but was awesome for them.

Everyone was kind and excited to learn more. Each new person that I interacted with made me feel more comfortable. By the end of the event, I had completely forgotten about my previous worries and the clouds from the morning were gone and replaced by clear skies. It sounds like I’m making the weather thing up, but it seriously was beautiful by the afternoon.

It can be scary to attend an event for the first time or even try a new drink. There is an automatic voice that tells you to stick to the stuff you know and not stray from it. Sometimes, though, it can be surprisingly beneficial to make the jump to try something new. If you’re hesitant about making the switch to roo.bru, I encourage you to just try it. And, if you don’t want to purchase a bag to try it, attend one of our tabling events if you’re in the area.

My challenge to you is: try something new, it might just lead you to your new favorite drink!
